Timetables

At the beginning of every semester I go through the same stress and annoyance over Uni timetabling. Trying to fit part time study during the day into part time work is a real pain. Despite knowing the beginning of every semester is going to be the same and knowing that somehow it all works out in the end, I still get stressed and irritated. I'm very fortunate to have a sympathetic employer who allows me to change my work days every semester, but I don't like to push my luck.
This coming semester is no different. I'm going to have to work 2 half days in lieu of a full day, which would be OK except I travel 50km each way to and from Uni. They've made another change to the timetable and placed a lecture bang in the middle of the day, so basically I just won't be able to attend it. This means I will be traveling a total of 2 1/2 hours for a 1 hour tutorial on one day!!
I really must want to do this!

Painful.. I am assuming full time students attend the same lectures? Otherwise its a bit thoughtless of them. Good luck with the studies for next term!!

Hey Mr C,

You should see if the uni has a timetabling website... we have one that students can get a hold of class times before the semester starts so it gives you an idea of what there is, and means you can then go and ask for changes and have a definite plan in mind rather than just complaining about "that bloody wednesday tutorial".... its been a godsend for me too! Hope that helps.

p.s. I was going to email you abt this but i've lost your email address...

Thanks cuteguy. A bit of discipline wouldn't go astray either!

Thanks too Dan. We do have something like that. You put your preferences in for tutes and labs early on, but don't find out till the week before semester what preferences you've been given. It's then a bit of a bun fight trying to change to what you really want. Also this semester they changed a lecture the week before semester starts, so that has added to the turmoil.
Good luck with your studies this semester.

You should be careful you are not swayed by people that have been-there, done-that, who talk with cynicism.... :D

Hi Campbell,
Someday you’ll look back at all the hassle you’re experiencing right now and realize it was well worth it. Every once in a while we all should stand back (or outside) our day to day life and take inventory of what are goals are and how best to go about achieving them….sounds like this is one of those times for you. Good Luck! I hope it all works out for the best for you.

How’s the price of gas in Melbourne?

Hi Altraeis,
Aren’t you a nice gentleman! I’ve been in a bit of a “funk” recently, so your kinds words were most appreciated this afternoon. Thanks!

Campbell, I guess your life is as complicated as mine. If this is someting you really want to do, you'll find a way to do it (and also find a way to use the hours of travelling time to you advantage). Put YOUR priorities first nd if studying is close to the top of the list then make sure you prioritise accordingly.

Hi Campbell,
Have a pleasant Sunday! Don't you have to return to work on Monday? Groan...

Thanks Miss L., very good of you to think of me today. My timetable this semester has me at Uni on Monday so that is tomorrow and Tuesday morning, with work on Tuesday afternoon. So yes, this coming week is the beginning of the new routine. I've had a great couple of weeks off though, so feeling refreshed to face it.

How are things going for you? Will the tea room be open again soon?

Hi Campbell,
Your two weeks of “Holiday” came at an apropos time; just before you begin to pick up momentum with your hectic schedule. You’re going to be busy but the time really does “fly by” and it’ll all be over with before you realize it. Once you’ve finished with your courses at the University, are you planning on changing your career? You’re enrolled in a nursing program, correct?

Life goes on. Will the Tea Room open again soon? I doubt it. Realistically, what can someone say about “Flickr” pictures and “YouTube” songs? For the present time, I’m going to visit Blog Sites and comment and see how that goes. I’m a bit mercurial, so who knows what’ll happen in the future.

Good luck with school and returning to “the job”!!

Miss L., I'm glad you won't be lost to the blogosphere totally. I have very much appreciated being able to visit your Tea Room. It has been a place of tranquility amidst a sometimes busy world. I look forward to being able to hopefully visit the tearooms again sometime, but in the meantime I look forward to you visits here.
Thanks for the good wishes on my new semester. I'm up early ready to start this morning. I am looking forward to my change of career to nursing when I've finished study ( in 3 years time!!). I'm also trying to remain in the present and enjoy the process of the change, ie. the study as well as my current work. I've always tended to be an inpatient lad!

Hi Campbell,
LOL! Impatience is my first, middle and last name! I try to curb it but usually am not successful. I understand how you feel facing 3 years of school, but your attitude of trying to enjoying the education and your current job should ease the angst at bit….

Thanks for your kind words about the Tea Room. I’d thought about “temporarily” closing it in the past but was always cajoled into not doing so. I appreciate your acceptance of my decision. And maybe I’ll have a change of heart and “go live” in a while.

Don’t forget to have a good time while you’re burning the midnight oil….
